Miss B.C., Langley's Hannah Seamann to speak at BCAPS event

International Stuttering Awareness Day to be marked for the first time in B.C.

Monday, Oct. 22 is International Stuttering Awareness Day, and for the first time, it will be celebrated in British Columbia.

Among those who will be speaking at an event, which will be held this Saturday in Burnaby is Langley's Hannah Seaman — currently, Miss B.C — a person who stutters.

The British Columbia Association for People who Stutter (BCAPS) will be celebrating ISAD by hosting a full day event, which will feature three workshops. These, along with an open mic session, will provide people the opportunity to learn and have discussions in a very supportive, respectful and open environment.

Topics will include employment, communication, empowerment, openness, stuttering information, and ways to reduce fear, anxiety and stress.

Where: Community Room in Metroplois at Metrotown (beside Old Navy), 4700 Kingsway in Burnaby.
When: Saturday, Oct. 20 from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Cost: $25 per adult, $10 for students. Financial assistance available.
