This nation’s 149th birthday party at Willoughby Community Park was extra special for Kayla Wild – even if she wasn’t there to experience the thrill of winning a one-year lease on a new 2015 Ram 1500 Sport Quad Cab Hemi from Maple Ridge Chrysler.

The lease was awarded July 1 during the Langley Canada Day JRBQ, hosted by the radio station JRfm. Kayla’s mom Kris Straumfjord excitedly accepted the prize on Wild’s behalf, and had her daughter on the phone to tell her the great news.

Five randomly chosen finalists stood on the main stage and the winner was decided by a heads-versus-tails coin flip.

Dana Matheson, whose company C&D Logistics was the presenting sponsor of the Canada Day party, called the event “awesome,” with a barbecue benefiting Basics for Babies, sports and community demos, and a day-long concert featuring music from country artists.

“They [the organizers] did a fantastic job,” added Matheson, estimating that roughly 6,000-plus people visited the park on Canada Day.
