Langley’s George Miller will celebrate his 80th birthday the way any former Snowbird leader would – with a day of formation flying practice.
Miller, an RCAF veteran and retired manager of the Langley Regional Airport, will go up with the Fraser Blues formation flying team on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
He and his fellow flight team members spent years training and heading off to airshows to demonstrate their precision techniques. Their planes fly as close as four feet apart during some maneuvers.
Though the team “retired” from the airshow circuit in 2010, they have kept up a schedule of practices and flypasts at Remembrance Day events ever since.
The practice will also celebrate 60 years of continuous flying by Miller, an Aviation Hall of Fame member.
Aviation enthusiasts are welcome to come to the airport at 4 p.m. to welcome Miller and offer birthday wishes after his landing.
