The 5th Annual Rachel’s Ride for Rwanda will take place on Saturday, June 23 at Derby Reach Regional Park in Langley.

The Ride for Rwanda started in June 2014 when Surrey resident Rachel Fitz conducted a 12 kilometre cycle for local children of Grades 2 to 7. The cycle helped raise $5,620 for the Wellspring Foundation for Education.

The Wellspring Foundation for Education is a non-profit organization that helps provide Rwanda with quality education. There are 124 Rwandan public schools that Wellspring staff work alongside to help give over 175,000 children a vibrant learning environment.

In celebration of its 5th year, this year’s ride will have prizes and extra activities. Registration opened on March 15 and the early bird rate of $30 per rider, or one rider for $10 for families of 4 or more will end on May 1.

Rachel shares of recent connections with a student in Rwanda: “Because of Wellspring, we are both achieving our dreams. Noella dreamed of having a good education; of being safe at school; of being taught by loving, respectful, and skillful teachers. The fact that Noella finally enjoys going to school and is being equipped to fulfill her dreams, and the fact that Rachel’s Ride has helped make this possible, brings joy to all of us. This is why I love Wellspring, and this is why I’m asking you to join us at Rachel’s Ride.”
