A street-style skateboard competition will test the skills of local riders this Saturday in Langley.
The parking lot at Mountain View Alliance Church (7640 200 St.) will be transformed into a skateboarding venue as competitors will look to wow the judges on the quarter-pipes, fun-boxes, flat-bars and blast ramps.
Each competitor will have their own timed run and will be judged accordingly to trick difficulty, creativity and consistency on the course.
The top three in sponsored category will receive prize money while the top three in the other categories — beginner, intermediate and advanced — will receive product prizes.
The event is being run by Love Bomb Skateboarding and sponsored by Play4Life, an organization committed to creating safe, fun events for teenagers with the purpose of empowering them to make a difference both in their community and their world.
The proceeds raised at the event will be split between helping send kids who can’t afford skateboard camp, and helping stop the exploitation of children in Cambodia.
Registration is from 11 a.m. to noon (beginner $10, intermediate $15, advanced $20 and sponsored $25) and each participant must bring a signed waiver form in order to participate.
The competition runs from noon to 5 p.m. and there will be a free barbecue from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
