White Rock’s new year’s dip is not the only game in town when it comes to chilly events organized to ring in 2024 on the Semiahmoo Peninsula.

There are also two planned in Crescent Beach, including one that is clothing-optional.
Both are set for 1 p.m.
The Polar Bear swim, while not an organized affair, typically draws around 100 local residents to the swimming area at the end of Sullivan Street, notes an online post by South Surrey resident Don Pitcairn.
For those who prefer to celebrate in their birthday suits, the 16th Polar Bare Plunge – hosted by Surrey United Naturists – is planned for the stretch of waterfront that’s accessible via stairs located at the western foot of 24 Avenue. Participants should meet at the ‘Crescent Rock’ boulder.

Costumes including body paint and Santa toques are encouraged, and footwear is recommended, Pitcairn adds.
He said for those interested in pulling off the “Triple Crown” of polar bear swims, the White Rock, Surrey and Vancouver events can be completed in 2.5 hours.
