Volunteers from Airco Heating and Cooling Ltd. were among dozens of people who collected nearly half a tonne of trash during the second Township-wide cleanup in October.

The Fall Clean Up Langley Days harvested half a tonne of garbage from locations where trash is not permitted.

The Township reported Monday that 450 kg or 992.08 lbs of waste was removed from various locations during the Oct. 24 event.

Volunteers donned bright yellow safety vests and protective gloves to collect household waste, abandoned furniture and even the occasional election campaign sign.

The Times captured the moment when a disgusted Sharon Montgomery hauled out a bag of household garbage that was dumped in a vacant lot near 86 Avenue and 201 Street.

“That’s just the part that didn’t fall out,” Montgomery said.

It was the second cleanup of the year, following an April event that collected close to two tonnes of waste.

The Township Facebook page posted an album of photos with a “special shout out” to hosts from Aldergrove TD Canada Trust, Aldergrove Business Association, Langley Elks, Lindsay Kenney LLP, Cool J’s Ice Cream, the Fort Langley Evangelical Free Church, and LEPS as well as the municipal Youth Advisory Committee, Airco Heating and Cooling Ltd. and the R.E Mountain Green Team.

Some Adopt-a-Street-Program volunteers altered their cleanup schedules to participate on the day.
