On March 1, the Fort Gallery welcomes cellist Sabrina Juan for an evening of live music.

Sabrina, 16, has been performing in music festivals and recitals since she began music lessons at the age of five. She will play at the Fort Gallery from 7 to 9 p.m. as part of the gallery’s monthly ‘First Thursday’ community arts event.

Sabrina, who also performs piano, studies cello with Joel Stobbe and piano with Kathy Bjorseth. This past summer she travelled to Italy to participate in the Casalmaggiore International Music Festival where she performed as both soloist and chamber musician.

In November, she was the winner of the Fraser Valley Concerto Competition, and has recently performed as a soloist with the Fraser Valley Symphony Orchestra.

Currently, Sabrina is the principal cellist of the Surrey Youth Orchestra, and enjoys performing with the Langley Community Music School Cello Ensemble, as well as with a quartet in the community.

Also featured at this month’s ‘First Thursday’ are a number of artists from the gallery’s current group exhibit, There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in. That show runs until March 4.
