An appreciation of food goes far beyond eating. It encompasses smelling, watching, and learning about food as well.

On Saturday, take a stroll along the one-way section of Fraser Highway in downtown Langley (between 204 and 206 Streets) to indulge the senses in culinary delight at the second annual Fork and Finger Foodie Event.

Downtown Langley Business Association executive director Teri James noted this year’s event is designed to appeal to everyone who has a love of food.

“People come downtown for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it’s to shop, sometimes it’s to eat,” James said. “This is the opportune time to feature our downtown restaurants.”

Finding foodie activities to delight all members of the family is easy downtown. Dem-onstrations, tastings, $5 sampler plates, and more will be found along the one-way from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“We always want to appeal to a wide variety of people, including families,” James noted.

Demon-strations and tastings will be held in McBurney Plaza and run the gamut of food interests.

“We found that people genuinely enjoy demonstrations about things they may not know about like chocolate, or mixology, or smoking meat,” James said.

“It’s as wide a variety as possible to appeal to everyone who attends on Saturday.”

Demos begin at 11 a.m. with an education and tasting around chocolate. Noon sees fancy fruit carving take the stage, followed by lessons on working with fondant − how to colour it, design it and wrap cakes with it. At 3 p.m. barbeque expert Kevin Legge will do a cedar plank salmon demo and tasting to be followed by a slow smoked rib demo and tasting.

If the smells aren’t satisfying the tastebuds, visit Shiraz, Frosting Cupcakery, or Ban Chok Dee for a $5 sampler plate. Fish monger 1 Fish 2 Fish will offer oysters on the half shell at a sampling price and All of Oils will host tastings and education sessions about oils.

“People are going to have a fantastic time,” James said.
