Get ready to move to the groove at the Watershed Arts Cafe in Langley.
The Siobhan Walsh group is bringing their R&B, neo-soul and jazz fusion band to the Walnut Grove café on Friday, Oct. 19.
The band is made up of a trio of musicians, including Walsh, a Vancouver singer who moved to the city from Vancouver Island four years ago.
Jonny Tobin plays keyboard and Joel Fountain performs on drums.
Walsh grew up immersed in music, as her father was an opera director. After graduation, Walsh attended Vancouver Island University’s jazz program.
Walsh calls singing her “outlet.”
“It’s where I feel the most at home, when I sing. I have been singing my whole life and it’s really my outlet to express what is happening in my life and the world.”
Walsh explained the biggest challenge of the band is “managing both the business side of the music business and still having time for the creative process.”
The Siobhan Walsh Group combines different genres of music because Walsh said she doesn’t view them as separate genres when she’s singing.
“I just play the music I love and it happens to be all of those styles of music.”
Friday’s concert at the Watershed Arts Cafe, 20349 88 Ave., begins at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased online for $15 or at the door for $20.
