Dressed in vintage Civil War attire, 13 students from Langley Christian Middle High school recited their lines on a brightly lit stage in the school’s gymnasium.
Little Women, the school’s 2017 production, runs April 26 to 29 at 7:30 p.m. at the school, 22702 48 Ave.
The play, based on the novel by Louisa May Alcott, follows the lives of four sisters during the American Civil War.
“It has been an amazing journey this year,” said director/producer Deb Jarvis.
“The play is about family, celebrating not only a strong immediate family, like the March family, but also all the people that they embrace as family who come from all sorts of areas. A grandson and grandfather who live next door, a grumpy old Aunt who lives on her own, poor, rich, friendly, lonely, old and young, this family knows what it means to be welcoming and share life with people in their communities.
“It’s a great example to us all. The cast has really reflected this in play practices this year, too. Hard times, and good, they support and encourage each other, celebrating the good, and surrounding and supporting those who need support. What the audience will see on stage is what I have seen all year in rehearsals.”
In addition to the 13 actors involved in the production (in Grades 10-12), there are also 10 backstage crew (in Grades 9-12).
