Rick Miller to make two appearances in Langley this week

The writer/director/performer/musician comes to the Chief Sepass Theatre Jan. 11 and 12

One of Canada’s top artists is making two appearances in Langley this week.

Rick Miller, a Toronto-based Dora and Gemini award-winning writer/director/performer/musician/educator who has worked in five languages on five continents, and who Entertainment Weekly called “one of the 100 most creative people alive today,” is coming to the Chief Sepass Theatre in Fort Langley on Thursday, Jan. 11 and Friday, Jan. 12.

On Thursday, Miller will be the special guest of the Langley Fine Arts School’s ArtsMatter Artist Series. He will be speaking about his career and will give insights into the creation of shows like MacHomer and BOOM. The first part of the evening will feature performances by Langley Fine Arts students that have been influenced by, or are a tribute to Miller and his work.

The next evening, Miller will be performing his award winning one man spectacular, BOOM, a show that explores 25 years of Baby Boom history through music, video and vocal virtuosity. This is the first time it is being performed in the Lower Mainland since its hit residency at the 2016 PUSH Festival in Vancouver.

Both events are open to the public and all ages are welcome.

“It is an honour to have an artist/performer the calibre of Rick Miller coming to Langley,” said Kevin Statham, Chief Sepass Theatre manager.

“Not only do we get the opportunity to see BOOM up close and in our community, we also have the chance, through the ArtsMatter event, to listen to Rick Miller talk about his career, see how his work has been interpreted by Langley Fine Arts School students and have the opportunity to ask him questions at the end of the evening.”

Both the ArtsMatter event and BOOM performance begin at 7 p.m. Reserved tickets are available online at brownpapertickets.com. Click here for ArtsMatter tickets and here for BOOM tickets.
