In his latest exhibition, Langley artist Christopher Friesen uses the work of an iconic French painter to explore modern themes.
Scroll Through History — which continues at Abbotsford’s Mennonite Heritage Museum until June 6 — uses both iconic and obscure works by French master Jean Baptiste Camille Corot (1796 – 1875) to examine legacies, tendencies of modern painting and to consider notions of influence, quotation, authorship, knowledge and the “real” in the age of digital reproduction.
This exhibition features paintings from Silvery Tones, shown at the Elissa Cristall Gallery in 2016, as well as Search by Image, shown at The Reach Gallery in Abbotsford earlier this year.
This show also features new works and previously unseen works. The title, Scroll through history, serves both as a reference to past works and also as a reference to place.
The Mennonite Heritage Museum is located at 1818 Clearbrook Rd in Abbotsford.
