String quartet closes Café Classico season

Langley Community Music School will welcome the Pacific Rim String Quartet for the final Concerts Café Classico performance this season on Friday, May 13, at 10 a.m. The concert will feature string quartets by Shostakovich, one of Russia’s most influential and prominent composers of the 20th century.  “LCMS resident ensemble, the Pacific Rim String Quartet will end the season with some wonderful masterworks by Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich,” said Elizabeth Bergmann, artistic director concerts for LCMS.

“The group will interpret his Quartet No. 7, which he wrote in memory of his wife, and the best known eighth quartet, which is an intimate and haunting work reflective of his personal and professional struggles living within the Soviet regime.”

Pre-concert coffee and commentary by Bergmann begins at 10 a.m., followed by the concert at 11 a.m. “Two of his shorter pieces, his Adagio and Polka will also be performed,” adds Bergmann. Tickets are available at the Langley Community Music School box office at 604-534-2848 for $15 adults, $13 seniors, and $10 students. LCMS is at 4899 207 St.
