Voices raised in song have raised a lot of money for local children.
The First Capital Chorus is a non-profit group whose members enjoy singing barbershop style music.
Their singing of Christmas songs over the past 25 or so years has meant six figures of funds for the Langley Christmas Bureau – the proceeds from the annual Christmas concert.
“I think we’re close to $125,000 after all that time,” said member Gord Harris. “I think we’ve done well. We’d like to do a lot better.”
The amount raised depends on the venue the chorus is able to book and the weather.
“Some year we’ve had snow and people stay away but please come on out,” he said.
This year the group will perform at 7 p.m. on Dec. 14 in the Willoughby Christian Reformed Church, 20525 72nd Ave.
“We’ve been doing this for approximately 25 years, and we like to raise a lot of money for the Langley Christmas Bureau, and help all those children that need to have something good for Christmas,” Harris said.

Four members of the chorus, who also sing together at the Syncromesh Quartet, stopped by the Langley Christmas Bureau on Thursday with the funds from last year’s concert.
“The concert this year, the money we raise, we put it in the bank. It collects interest all year and then we give a cheque again next year,” he explained.
Admission for the Dec. 14 concert is $20 for general tickets with seniors admitted for $15.
}This year we have The Langley Children’s Choir, First Capital Chorus and quartets, and two or three musical groups, as well,” Harris noted.
Advance tickets are available at Auld Phillips in downtown Langley City, Beach Basket Giftware in Walnut Grove, and Westland Insurance in Brookswood and Willowbrook Shopping Centre.
“Get out and get yourself a ticket or come on out. We’ll have them at the door for you,” Harris said.
