Even the price of Pioneer Christmas – $10 for a family of four – harkens back to yesteryear.
Pioneer Christmas is the annual family event Dec. 2 put on by the Langley Centennial Museum to teach young and old what the holidays were like in years gone by.
Families can relax and enjoy a reading of ’Twas the Night Before Christmas, the long-form poem originally called A Visit from St. Nicholas that was first published in 1823.
During the museum event, kids can check out pioneer toys and learn about how Christmas used to be celebrated. There are pioneer crafts to be done and gingerbread cookies to be decorated.
The kids can also colour, and get a photo taken with jolly old St. Nick. Each child also receives a surprise gift.
Kids attending will want to do some homework in advance – write those letters to Santa. They can be mailed at the museum’s historic post office.
