Well, it’s about high time this OCP-loving Township of Langley mayor get off his butt and actually start dealing with one of Langley’s biggest problems – crime.
Mayor Jack Froese has been trying to ram horrible Official Community Plans down Brookswood’s collective throats now since 2012. It is this same mayor that I have not heard one single peep out of him in regards to curbing crime that runs rampant every single night in Brookswood/Fernridge where I live.
I am the creator/admin of a social media page called Brookswood Crime Watch, it has over 2400 active members and believe me, every single night there is car break-ins, or some kind of property crime going on, and not a single cop in sight.
I get up in the morning, grab a coffee, and I sit down at my computer and read post after post about the latest thefts, break-ins and personal crimes from all over Brookswood and (starting at the 26th Avenue area) Fernridge.
When is the last time you heard Mayor Froese talk about him wanting to curb crime? When is the last time you heard him wanting a public hearing on crime? When was the last time the mayor hired consultants to come up with a plan to stop or even slow down crime? When has this mayor put wooden signs up all over Brookswood telling the people where a townhall meeting was being held so he can listen and begin to deal with the heavy, heavy crime rate? The answer to all these questions in my opinion, and many of the residents in the area is never.
We, here in Brookswood, have had enough. The only thing this mayor is ever concerned about is if his heavily skewed developer friendly Official Community Plan can be rammed down our throats. This mayor has spent so much time, so much of our money on trying to smoke and mirror this OCP past us to get approved that he has ignored the biggest thing on most of our minds each day, crime.
Now that hopefully this OCP business is behind us (depending on how the vote goes on Oct. 23. In a defeat I am sure the mayor will simply use another mulligan and want to revisit it again ) maybe this mayor who is nearing the end of his second term (and more than likely his last) just maybe he can at least throw Brookswood/Fernridge a bone and pretend he actually wants to do something about crime, instead of trying to make developers rich.
The mayor only has one year left in office, maybe he should hurry up and do the things he was hired to do, like dealing with crime that has only gone up in the Township of Langley since he was elected into office. So much for being an ex cop.
