Postcard of the Langley Hotel, which was built in the late 1940s.

Dear Editor,

Re: [VIDEO: Demolition begins in core of Langley City, Langley Advance Times, Jan. 4]

With regards to the four City-owned buildings that are starting to get demolished, I wanted to express my disappointment and sorrow at such a loss for Langley’s history.

They have finished demolishing the first of the four buildings and will be moving on the next three in the next few weeks or months.

I wish that City council would have decided on saving our history, instead of creating an entertainment district and a civic precinct.

The Langley Hotel was built in the 1940s. Then when the hotel became popular, postcards of it started selling.

In the late 1950s, Langley City was founded.

In the 1990s, the Langley Hotel was expanded and renovated. This building is in its 80s.

By tearing down this monument, we losing a part of the area’s standing history.

Alex Petersen (age 11), Langley City
