Trinity Western University’s Gender Studies Institute is hosting a free public lecture on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m.
Titled, I’m Not Your Princess: How Entitlement Hinders Wholeness, the lecture by Dr. Allyson Jule explores the power behind the princess motif and the role of entitlement.
“Disney Princess culture” has impacted today’s young women in such a way that has raised expectations and demands on both young women and men. The implicit yet powerful messages that result are often demanding yet demeaning to the roles for girls and women.
Dr. Jule is co-founder of the TWU Gender Studies Institute and the author of eight books, including Gender, Participation & Silence in the Classroom:Sh-shushing the Girls and A Beginner’s Guide to Language and Gender. She is currently the President of Canada’s Women & Gender Studies et Recherches Féministe Association.
The event will take place in the Northwest Auditorium at the Langley campus, 7600 Glover Rd.
