The suspect in the death of a man found dead in a vacant lot in Langley is scheduled to go on trial this month for second-degree murder.

Jason Robert William Griffiths is accused of killing Nicholas Ball, 29. Persons charged with a criminal offence are considered not guilty until the charges are proven in court.

Ball’s body was found on March 29, 2022 on a partly-forested property in the 7400-block of 208th Street. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) soon took over the case.

Ball had a criminal record of assault with a conviction in 2017, and at the time of his murder, he was awaiting trial on charges of kidnapping, unlawful confinement, and aggravated assault, dating back to Aug. 29, 2017, with the alleged offences taking place in Langley and Dawson Creek.

Griffiths, who is about 42 years old, has no significant criminal record in B.C.

Police have released little information about what allegedly led to the killing.

The trial is to be held in the New Westminster courthouse starting on March 25. The trial is slated to run until May 3.
