For the first time, the province-wide chorus festival is coming to Langley – and the Langley Community Chorus is the host.

Chorfest typically alternates between a Lower Mainland location on a year-to-year basis, and the host is chosen based on local chorus’ activity in their hometowns.

It’s a three-day live music event that brings individual choristers together from across B.C. to learn under the direction of an esteemed guest clinician, explained Anita Comba, director of the Langley Community Chorus (LCC).

The event includes two days of rehearsals, an evening banquet at which the BC Youth Choir performs, a silent auction, and final performance on the Sunday afternoon.

“It’s an unforgettable bonding experience for choristers,” Comba commented.

The Langley chorus’ volunteer committee has been busy organizing and preparing for the upcoming event, set to run May 24 to 26.

Comba anticipates up to 120 participants in the adult Chorfest, of which more than 20 belong to the LCC.

For the adult Chorfest events, day one and two will include rehearsals and a reception at the Fort Langley Community Hall, and the final day’s concert will be held at the South Langley Mennonite Church.

The event also features a BC Teen Choir, which is for choirs in Grades 8 to 12 or teenage community choirs of ages 13 to 18. These talented students will perform at different locations in Langley the same weekend, exact venues are still being decided.

The BC Youth Choir will also perform their own concert over the weekend, which is scheduled to be at Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s Langley Campus.

Choir groups interested in signing up can online at bcchoralfed.com.

In the meantime, the Langley Community Chorus’ spring season is open, and its hosting several concerts in the first half of May.

On Friday, May 3, the LCC will be at the United Churches of Langley.

Then on Sunday, May 5, they will perform at the St. Dunstan’s Church.

And for the final concert on Saturday, May 11, they will be at the Walnut Grove Lutheran Church.

Tickets can be purchased online at langleychorus.org.
