Henderson out as Rivermen head coach and GM

Have ‘mutually agreed to part ways’ announcement says

Burt Henderson is out as Langley Rivermen Coach and General Manager.

Posted just before noon Friday, Jan.12, on social media, a statement said they “have mutually agreed to part ways. Burt has been an integral part of the Rivermen family for many years and we wish him all the best in the next phase of his career.”

No official announcement of a replacement has been made yet.

Later in the day, Tyler Kuntz, Rivermen associate head coach and associate general manager was listed as head coach for the game against the Trailer Smoke Eaters.

Trail won 9-4.

With a record of 9 wins in 34 games this season, the Rivermen currently stand eighth in the nine-team BCHL Coastal conference.

In May 2021 Henderson took over the top jobs at the Rivermen, replacing his cousin Bobby Henderson, who left after a social media dust-up with a Toronto reporter.

Tyler Kuntz came aboard in June of 2023.

At the time, Henderson praised Kuntz’s addition, stating, “Tyler’s wealth of experience, both on and off the ice, is unrivaled. His unwavering dedication to the sport and remarkable track record underscore his commitment.”

In a joint statement, new owners Jamie Schreder and Dana Matheson said “Tyler’s unwavering dedication to player development and his enthusiasm for the game perfectly align with our vision for the Rivermen. We believe his leadership and wealth of experience will be indispensable as we chart our team’s future successes.”

Kuntz has served as head coach at the University of British Columbia, assistant coach for the Vancouver Giants, as well as head coach and general manager with the Powell River Kings.
