Do you have home renovations on your mind, but worry about the potential costs and organizational headaches involved in hiring multiple contractors to complete the work?

Renovation expenses are top of mind for an increasing number of homeowners in the Fraser Valley and Lower Mainland who, rather than moving to upgrade their living space, opt to update their existing home instead.

It’s a scenario that Carlos Naranjo with Langley-based Pico Design and Renovation sees often.

The residential and commercial building contractor and renovation specialist says many of his clients are looking for someone they can rely on to oversee everything from the small details to the large aspects of a job.

A one-stop shop

“We can look after a project from the sketch to the finished product,” he says. An older kitchen typical of many local homes is the perfect example. “We can take the design from a closed concept kitchen to a bright, welcoming open concept.”

“This way people don’t need to call the plumber and the electrician and the tiler. We can do it all together.”

Building partnerships

Any general contractor needs to have a close relationship with their sub-trades, to help keep projects on time and on budget for clients. Ensuring a sense of teamwork prevails amongst the different people working on a renovation is key.

Good partnerships with suppliers such as kitchen factories, tiling and flooring shops also help a contractor keep costs down, Naranjo says.

Many large residential renovation projects involve multiple jobs or rooms at once. If you’re looking at re-doing your kitchen, main bathroom and possibly your basement, for example, it’s important to ask such things as whether you can stay in the home while the work is underway, and factor in any additional costs if that isn’t the case.

With most clients remaining in the home after the renovations, rather than selling it, they get to enjoy the improved living space, Naranjo says.

Pico also has interior design, handyman services and maintenance programs available. To learn more, contact Carlos Naranjo directly at 1-604-825-3650.
