1 woman dead in early morning Surrey house fire

RCMP say cause of fire not believed to be suspicious

A morning house fire has claimed the life of a woman in Surrey’s Fleetwood area.

Surrey firefighters were called to the 15100-block of 88 Avenue at around 5:20 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 24).

Police also arrived and evacuated the occupants of neighboring residences, according to the Surrey RCMP.

“Surrey Fire Department located an unidentified female in the residence who did not survive,” Staff Sgt. Brad Essex said in a news release.

“Surrey RCMP General Investigation Unit (GIU) investigated alongside the Surrey Fire Inspector, and have determined the cause of the fire was not suspicious.”

Police ask any witnesses to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 and quote file 24-26411.

Nineteen firefighters battled the blaze that was brought under control in under 30 minutes, according to a freelance photographer on the scene.
