A 43-year-old woman is facing criminal charges after a raid on a Langley house in the 20400 block of 43 Avenue on Monday (Jan. 17) by RCMP.

The police were investigating a reported theft of electricity.

They found the hydro meter had been tampered with to conceal the amount of power required to run 24 grow lights that provided artificial sunshine to more than 450 marijuana plants in the basement.

Someone had also made changes to the natural gas line near the hot water tank.

Hydro and gas service to the residence was cut and a ‘do not occupy’ placard was posted.

One woman was arrested at the scene.

She has been released from custody on a promise to appear in Surrey Provincial Court on April 11.

Police are recommending charges of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, production of marijuana and theft of hydro to Crown prosecutors.
