An elderly driver was shaken after driving into a building in downtown Langley City on Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened in the 5500 block of 203rd Street, west of the Langley Mall complex.

At about 12:38, the man drove across the parking lot and into the plate-glass window in the front of a restaurant.

The driver was taken to the hospital to be checked out, said Langley City fire chief Rory Thompson.

No one in the restaurant was hurt, and there was not structural damage to the building.

Over the last few years, there have been a number of incidents of cars smashing into buildings locally, many of them in the City and most of them involving elderly drivers.

One incident in 2013 resulted in serious injuries to people inside a business just off 200th Street south of the Langley Bypass.
