The Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce heard from its new executive director and picked three new directors at its annual general meeting Tuesday.
Members gathered at the Cascades Casino voted in Jenny Hinch of Lucid Water Co., Duncan Magnus of Magnus Law, and Vivian Smith of the Langley Memorial Hospital Foundation to two-year terms as directors.
The vote to select three directors from a field of six was close, and required re-counting after a near-tie.
President Scott Johnston, now in his second year as the chamber’s head, reported that some Langley initiatives had been approved by the B.C. Chamber of Commerce at its recent AGM in Kelowna. The proposals include tax policy, transportation funding, and truck driver training initiatives.
The Tuesday AGM was also a chance for new executive director Colleen Clark to speak to the membership.
Clark has taken over from retiring exec Lynn Whitehouse.
“We work for you,” Clark told the assembled members of the business community. “Without you, we don’t function.”
The Langley Chamber’s goal is to function as a conduit within and between communities for local businesses, and to create the best environment for businesses to thrive, she said.
Clark said a “Chamber 101” program would be forthcoming to get members up to speed on all the benefits they can get from membership.
