Downtown Langley offers portable feast

Residents of Langley Lodge will soon enjoy a better night’s sleep thanks to those who will enjoy a good night’s eating.

The Taste of Langley is back for its third annual progressive dinner event held at six downtown Langley restaurants this year.

Funds raised will go towards buying new mattresses for residents at Langley Lodge said Rotary Club of Langley Sunrise event fundraising chair Tom Louie.

“The money [raised will] buy a whole bunch of mattresses for the beds,” Louie added.

Fellow organizer Patrick Matiowski wears two hats in regards to the event. One as a Rotarian and the other as the fundraising director for Langley Lodge.

“We’re just about sold out this year,” Matiowski said of ticket sales for the May 19 event.

It’s great news given the organizers have increased the number of tickets available.

Tickets are $45 a person and can be purchased online at langleylodge.org/fundraising/events or call 604-880-6752, but those interested should act fast.

The price includes a course at four of the six restaurants and transit between the downtown locations is by foot.

“We tell people to pace yourself,” Louie said of the eating portion of the evening. “Leave room for dessert.”

Louie added that the walk between locations helps with appetite.

Once patrons purchase their tickets they will find out what restaurant to meet at for the 6 p.m. start time and will gather in groups of 30.

“It’s a greater mix of people... buying tickets,” commented Matiowski. “It’s a good cross mix of people.”

He noted Langley Lodge supporters, Rotarians, and the general public are all taking part.

“None of this would be possible without our restaurant partners,” she said.

Restaurants on the list this year are: Choo Choos, Ban Chok Dee, Shiraz Grill, Match Eatery, Old Yale Bistro, and Rendezvous Pub. Each restaurant chooses the dish served at each course.

Guests will spend about a half hour at each restaurant before walking to the next. It’s been described as a social, friendly atmosphere.

When asked if people are stuffed after the first two locations, Louie noted, “that’s the fun of it.”
