A Langley church suffered some exterior damage from a suspicious fire on Wednesday morning.

The Township firefighters were called out at 4:50 a.m., said deputy chief Bruce Ferugson.

They found flames licking at the siding of the Christ the King church in the 22600 block of 48th Avenue in Murrayville.

“It was showing under the stairs,” Ferguson said.

Multiple fire crews arrived and quickly doused the flames.

There was no internal damage to the church except for a window broken by firefighters to gain access to the building.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it may have been started by homeless people who are known to shelter under the stairs.
