It was a situation that had the potential to put an entire complex up in flames in Willoughby.

But the fast action of Langley Township fire crews quickly snuffed out a blaze that charred part of the roof of a residential development under construction at 209 Street and 77A Avenue.

Just after 2 p.m., reports came in of flames coming from the top of the development.

A total of six Township of Langley fire trucks responded to the call, as well as one City of Langley truck.

By 2:30 p.m., the fire was out.

It’s believed the fire was started by the roofers, said Langley Township deputy fire chief Bruce Ferguson.
