A 40-year-old bridge in the City of Langley is about to get a major overhaul.
The municipality is ready to begin work on a major refurbishment of the 200 Street bridge crossing the Nicomekl River. Constructed in 1976, the bridge was designed to have a 50-year lifespan and, based on a recent condition assessment, requires work on its concrete deck as well as structural repairs.
The City anticipates the repairs will extend the life of the bridge by a minimum of 20 years.
The $1.45 million project is being undertaken by Seismic 2000 Ltd., a local construction company that has significant experience in bridge repairs and seismic upgrades, according to release issued by the City on July 28.
The work is scheduled to begin in early August, with an anticipated completion date sometime in the autumn, weather permitting.
Traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction, 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout the construction period.
Motorists can expect delays and, where possible, should consider an alternate route.
Drivers are urged to apply caution in the construction zone and to obey all construction signs and traffic control personnel.
During construction, cyclists will be temporarily detoured to the 203 Street corridor.
