A 31-year-old man with a lengthy history in B.C. courtrooms has been sent to jail for various crimes committed in Langley in 2015.
Jake Knute Soros, 31, was in Surrey Provincial Court on Jan. 10 for sentencing on nearly two dozen charges, including possession of illegal firearms, ID theft and uttering threats.
A judge stayed 14 of the charges, but Soros was sentenced to 16 months in jail for possession of a firearm knowing it was unauthorized, identity theft, and possession of stolen property. He is to follow up his jail sentence with three years probation. He has a lifetime firearms ban.
He was also given one year in jail for uttering threats and for mischief related to incidents that occurred one month earlier in July 2015.
He was also sentenced to four months in jail on top of that for failing to appear pursuant to a court order to do so.
In May, 2017, a Canada-wide warrant was issued for Soros, who is six feet two inches tall.
In 2010, Ridge Meadows RCMP arrested eight people after a semi-truck and trailer containing more than $1 million in merchandise was stolen in Hope.
Knute Soros, who was 23 at the time, was one of the people arrested.
The semi-truck and trailer were reported stolen April 29. Although the remains of the burned-out truck and trailer were recovered by police on a property on Maple Ridge on May 5, they were able to uncover several leads which led to surveillance and the search of a residence in rural Maple Ridge. Some of the stolen property was recovered.
In 2010, Knute Soros was pulled over in Barriere for a traffic stop when police saw 16 guns in the backseat of the vehicle. One of the firearms bore the name of a resident in the area. Police attended that home and found it had just been burglarized. Soros was found guilty of the crimes in 2011.
