British Columbian and British police worked together on an investigation that has sent a Langley man to prison for child sex offences in the UK.
Glenn Schulz has pleaded guilty to two charges of arranging a child sex offence and one charge of distributing indecent images, said Cpl. Janelle Shoihet, spokesperson for the RCMP E Division.
On Aug. 15, Schulz was sentenced to eight years and eight months in prison.
The investigation began in May with a UK undercover officer who posed as the father of two young girls.
Schulz got the officer's contact information from a site known for sharing child exploitation material, said Shoihet. Schulz approached the officer online and arranged to travel from Canada to the UK to sexually abuse the fictional girls.
Schulz also sent numerous child pornography images to the undercover officer by email.
The UK police connected with the B.C. Integrated Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) and a combined investigation that also involved the B.C. Integrated Sexual Predator Observation Team (ISPOT) and the Behavioural Analysis Unit ended with Schulz's arrival at Gatwick Airport in England.
"This investigation is an excellent example of the ongoing proactive online enforcement efforts that the BC RCMP is currently focusing on," said Insp. Tyler Svendson, the officer in charge of the BC RCMP Behavioural Sciences Group.
ICE has been using the technique since 2011 using specially trained covert investigators.
