A 35-year-old Langley man is in critical condition in hospital after crashing a mini bike and sliding into a parked car on Saturday morning.
Police are saying the man wasn't wearing a helmet and alcohol may have played a role in this crash.
Around 1:30 a.m., Langley RCMP were called out to the 21000 block of 84 Avenue to find the operator, of what was actually a small motorcycle, suffering from head injuries.
Witnesses said the man had been riding up and down the street and had lost control of the bike while trying to negotiate a corner. He fell off the bike and slid into a parked car.
The 35-year-old was taken to hospital by air ambulance where he remains in critical condition, said police spokesperson Cpl. Holly Marks.
Police believe alcohol was a factor in the collision and are requesting a warrant to determine the man's blood-alcohol content, she said.
The small motorcycle does not appear to be licensed and police will recommend appropriate charges once all the evidence has been collected.
“Recent statistics indicate that one in five motorcycle crashes results in head or neck injuries. Wearing a helmet is one of the most important factors in preventing or reducing these injuries," said Marks. "The law requires motorcycle operators and passengers to wear an approved motorcycle safety helmet. An operator not wearing a helmet combined with the consumption alcohol could prove deadly."
