Incumbent Rod Ross wants to keep seat at the Langley School District board table.

Ross was on the school board during its financial struggles as the district endured severe cuts to get a •• deficit off the books.

He noted, on his website, that he seeks re-election at a time when the district is “in a very good space” with a board that is functioning well, a district that is financially sound, and leadership that is passionate and committed to excellence.

“I am concerned about our future,” he said on his election website. “:I can see a future need for facilities in particular in the Willoughby area where growth is going through the roof. This is of paramount concern for us and one that will command much of the new Board’s attention. Where we have set the task for our teachers to create an environment where “learners are knowledgeable, skilled and innovative”…we will have to model this at the Board table even more so. It is time for us to look for innovative ways to design, build and fund our buildings. The current paradigm of the government funding our every building need must be challenged.”

Ross said his priorities for an upcoming term would include cyber security, seismic safety, and student success.
