Langley school in the running for $10,000 in books

Shortreed Elementary is looking for the community to show it some love.

That love comes in the form of books as part of the online Adopt A School project by the Indigo Foundation.

The school is second place in B.C. for garnering support and the campaign goes another 17 days, until the first weekend of October. If the school comes in first, it means $10,000 for the school to buy, what else – books – from the charity efforts of the book retailer Indigo.

The school is the only one in Langley that’s part of this year’s campaign.

“At Shortreed we LOVE reading! We are an inner city school of avid readers who read so much our books are wearing out. As a school we simply do not have the funds to update and shelf our library with relevant and interesting books. Reading has been a goal at our school for the past several years and it’s working! Now we need more books so our students can keep on reading,” the online description reads.

Learn more at http://adoptaschool.indigo.ca/eng/schools/1048. People can help the school win by donating online for books or ‘adopting’ (a type of online voting).

Shortreed update:

“Little did we know when we chose our library theme for the year – Unleash Your SuperPower: READ – we’d be in a friendly battle to win $10 000 for our library. What a JOLT of reading power those extra books will give us. We’ve only begun and already the excitement is growing. How thrilling to see our very own Shortreed Community School name on the banner as you enter Chapter’s. Shortreed is bursting with avid readers; we can barely keep books on our library shelves. What an awesome problem!

“We’re on our way, and you can help us. If you have no other school affiliation, please consider giving us your daily, ‘adopt’. We can guarantee that we put books to good use!

“Thanks for your support...

“In the words of Superman, “Up, up and away!”
