VIDEO: Plane crashes through fence at Langley Airport

Hard landing not believed to have caused any serious injuries

A light plane went through a fence after leaving the runway at Langley Regional Airport on Thursday afternoon.

The plane appears to have overshot the runway at the western edge of the airport, where it crashed through a chain link fence separating the airport from a path in the Derek Doubleday Arboretum.

Langley Township firefighters responded to the crash, but by the time they arrived, the single occupant of the plane was already out of the aircraft. The pilot was not injured, said assistant fire chief Dale Steeple.

It was unknown if the incident took place on takeoff or landing.

The crash is the second in the last three months at the airport, following a much more serious incident in which a plane making a landing clipped the roof of a pickup truck on 216th Street, then crashed and burst into flame short of the runway on May 2.

Two people were pulled from the burning plane by passerby, and treated for their injuries in hospital.
