Reward offered for info on Brookswood arsonist

The owner of a damaged home is looking for help finding the firebug.

The owner of a Brookswood home gutted by arson is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.

The fire broke out in the carport of the home in the 4000 block of 204B Street around 2:45 a.m. Sunday morning, said Cpl. Holly Largy, spokesperson for the Langley RCMP.

All six people in the rental house made it out safely, but the car in the carport was destroyed, and the home seriously damaged.

“The last thing I expected was arson,” said Brian Carlton, the owner of the Brookswood house.

But Carlton said investigators found a jerry can beside the car, and a pot of gasoline had apparently been placed underneath the destroyed vehicle.

From the car, the fire got into the split-level home’s second story and caused serious damage.

The building suffered about $200,000 worth of damage and will take four to six months to repair, said Carlton.

According to Carlton, investigators from the Langley RCMP Serious Crimes unit have told him they are investigating it as attempted murder. Multiple neighbours have been interviewed.

Carlton is offering a reward, but declined to say how much, for aid in catching the arsonist. He asked anyone with information to call the RCMP with their tip, or to contact him through Facebook.
