Hundreds of Langley residents came out to show their support for a youth shelter at an outdoor concert and fair fundraiser held at Willoughby Community Park on Saturday.

The vocal talents of Brookswood Secondary grads Daniel Wesley and Robyn and Ryleigh wowed the crowd as did Her Brothers and several other musical performances. Local dance companies Vitality and Lisa's School of Dance also put on moving performances.

The dunk tank was popular, with principals and vice principals of Langley Secondary, Brookswood Secondary, R.E. Mountain and others taking the plunge.

There were more than a dozen game booths manned by young volunteers from schools throughout Langley. The event was organized by youth for youth of Langley who need a safe emergency shelter. The task force made up of more than 15 active youth, have been organizing awareness campaigns and speaking to both councils to push for a youth shelter for teens in crisis who have nowhere safe to go in Langley.

"The best part of this day is that Langley students from almost all the schools are part of this, wanting to help," said BSS teacher Lenny Yun, who has been instrumental in helping the task force.

So far, neither the Township or City has committed to opening a youth shelter in the community, saying it is the responsibility of the province. But the teens in the task force say they will keep pushing even after they graduate to get a youth shelter in Langley.
