Police believe speed may have been a factor in a collision that sent three people to hospital, one with broken bones, on Monday.
Around 4:30 p.m., emergency crews were called to the 24600 block of 56 Avenue after a Volkswagen Jetta collided head on with a GMC Sierra pickup truck.
The westbound Jetta was driven by an 18-year-old Abbotsford man. He was accompanied by his 18-year-old girlfriend from Langley. As the Jetta entered into the S curves on 56 Avenue, the driver lost control and his vehicle entered the oncoming lane where it collided with the Sierra, driven by a 53-year-old Abbotsford woman.
Both drivers were taken by ground ambulance to hospital for treatment of their minor injuries.
The passenger in the Jetta was trapped in the vehicle for nearly an hour and had to be extricated by the Jaws of Life by the Township of Langley Fire Department. She was taken by Air Ambulance for treatment of broken bones, said police.
The collision was witnessed by a police officer following the Sierra and another civilian witness eastbound on 56 Avenue. Langley Traffic Services has taken over the investigation.
The Integrated Collision Analysts Reconstruction Service is providing assistance. Both vehicles will be subject to a mechanical inspection.
A portion of 56 Avenue was closed off for a few hours for the rescue and subsequent investigation.
