Train hits van in Langley

Vehicle ends up in ditch

One person was taken to hospital after a train hit a van in Langley Sunday night.

A minivan ended up in a ditch around 8 p.m. after the collision with a Southern Railway locomotive at an uncontrolled crossing near 248 Street and 72 Avenue that only has a stop sign.

Rescue crews removed three occupants from the minivan and transported the driver to hospital by ambulance for treatment of a relatively minor head injury.

The RCMP report on the collision said the eastbound train was sounding its horn as it approached the crossing, but the driver of the southbound van had inched forward onto the tracks and was hit on the passenger side, sending it spinning off the road.
