An RCMP officer was in stable but serious condition in hospital after an unmarked police cruiser was rear-ended by a pickup truck on Highway 1 in Langley Sunday morning.
The crash happened around 8 a.m. as the police vehicle was parked with its lights flashing at the side of the highway’s westbound lanes, between 232 Street and Glover Road.
The officer was waiting for the arrival of a tow truck, following a single vehicle rollover crash.
The driver of the truck which rear-ended the police car was released from the hospital the day of the incident.
As of Tuesday, the two female passengers remained in hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Highway 1 was closed for about 10 hours to vehicles west of 232 Street.
Cars were being re-routed through local streets, causing slow moving traffic.
The initial rollover accident and the crash that injured the officer are both still under investigation.
RCMP said the driver of that vehicle sustained minor injuries.
Police are hoping to speak to an eyewitness who may have been following the pickup truck.
That person is asked to contact the Port Mann highway patrol at 604-526-9744.
