The Integrated Homicide Team said the human remains found on the side of a rural road in Langley on Wednesday morning are connected to gang activity.
Langley RCMP were called to the 24300-block of Robertson Crescent after the discovery was made.
When police arrived, it was apparent the deceased was a male and had died as a result of injuries consistent with foul play, said IHIT spokesperson Cpl. Meghan Foster at a press conference held at Langley detachment Wednesday afternoon.
The incident was deemed a homicide, and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took over.
Investigators believe this murder to be targeted and linked to gang activity.
“Currently, investigators do not believe the location of the remains is where the homicide occurred,” said Foster.
“I can’t speak to how the body was discovered or the condition of the body,” she said.
“No doubt, this was a gruesome event that took place.”
There are currently no suspects in custody, she said.
“While there are currently no linkages between this homicide and other reported incidents of violence, the nature of this homicide causes us great concern for people involved with, or leading a lifestyle associated to gang activity or organized crime,” said Foster. “As we’ve said before, we need people who may have information to step forward and help us protect our communities, and protect themselves. ”
At this time, police say there is no evidence to confirm that this investigation is linked to other recent homicides or violent crimes, however that will form part of their investigation.
On Sunday, Oct. 16, a senior-ranking Hells Angel, Robert Keith Green, 56, was murdered at a Langley property.
A day later, 27-year-old Jason Wallace was arrested during a roadside stop in Surrey. He was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the Oct. 16 murder of Green.
Wallace remains in custody.
Police and prosecutors have described Wallace as a high-ranking member of the 856 gang, which takes its name from the Aldergrove phone prefix.
Foster wouldn’t say how police knew the body found on Wednesday was a targeted murder, or that it involved organized crime.
IHIT is working closely with the Langley RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Section, the Township of Langley, and the BC Coroner’s Service to gather evidence, and to establish motive. Robertson Crescent between 240 and 244 Streets will remain closed for scene processing.
