April 23, 1948 – December 20, 2016

It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Alan James Bakes on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 in Langley, BC. Alan was born in Yorkshire, England on April 23, 1948 and immigrated to Canada to Mississauga, Ontario in 1966 to live with his Aunt and Uncle and their family. In 1972, he came out west to BC with two close friends, Bill and Steve, settled in New West and eventually moved to Langley. He worked at S&R Sawmills until he retired in 2006. He is survived by his twenty two year companion Grace Wilson and his four children, Jason, Nicole, Sean, Alan Jr. and their families. Alan has four brothers in England, Glenn, James, Wayne, and Ian; also two sisters, Deborah from England and Amanda from South Surrey. He also leaves a large extended family and many friends here in Canada and Yorkshire, England. A celebration of Alan’s life will be held at The Clayton Public House at 5640 188th Street in Surrey, BC on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Alan’s name.
