Grant was born in Winnipeg on July 9, 1940. With his parents, Earl and Nellie Ward, his older brother, Don, and his younger twin, Raymond, Grant moved to Port Stanley, Ontario a year later. In 1946 his sister, Joan, completed the family.
Grant joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in September, 1960 and after graduation he was stationed to Surrey Detachment. His love of Port Stanley and his youth had him return to this beautiful summer tourist town a multitude of times over the next 60 years.
After retirement from the force in February, 1982 Grant became a small business owner in Langley. He served on the Township of Langley Council for 12 years and the Fraser Valley Regional Library Board for many years.
A life fully lived, Grant was a Queen's Scout, Rover leader, minor hockey coach, Barbershop singer, private pilot, and square dancer. He was passionate about community events including Langley Canada Day Celebrations, the
International Peace Arch Association, Langley Voluntary Sports Association, Operation Red Nose, and Remembrance Day services. He was a very proud Canadian who would sing "O Canada" at every opportunity given him. Recent trips were to Scotland and Ireland in 2015, Vimy, France in 2017, and Watch Lake and Millarville, Alberta in his motorhome early this September.
Grant is forever remembered by: his wife of 56 years, Vera; sons Sheldon and Tony; grandchildren Riley, Kacey, and Ryann; brother Don, and sister Joan; sisters-in-law Dona, Debbie, Sandy, and Fern; brothers-in-law Ron, Gary, Vern, and Mike; nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
