Langley Pioneer, Hazel Harrower, at the age of 98 passed on April 3, 2020 surrounded by the love of her family, and residents and staff at Harrison Landing Assisted Living in Langley, BC.
Hazel loved living in Harrison Landing Assisted Living where she made many friends over her 17 years there. She knew every resident and staff member by name and ensured that visiting family members were always introduced. She loved events where she played her violin or the piano, or sang songs including Trees of Green with her special friend George. She loved playing BINGO and would immediately after phone her daughter to report her winnings.
Hazel, alongside husband of 50 years, Bob Harrower (deceased 1996) contributed much to the early dairy farming community of Langley. After Bob returned from spending 4 years overseas as a flying officer in the RCAF in WW11 and Hazel had spent 6 years teaching primary children in Murrayville and Countyline schools, they together built a successful dairy farm in Langley. Together, they contributed to building a strong healthy community through their participation and leadership in recreation, music, sports, bridge games and church activities at Sharon and Langley United Churches.
Hazel held dear to her heart, the memories of her youngest son, Robert Harrower, who died in an accident when only 22 years of age, in 1981.
Hazel will be deeply missed for her cheery outgoing enthusiasm and her care for others. She is survived by daughter Lillian and husband John, son Jim and wife Rebecca, grandchildren Jay, Bryan, Brianna, Kendre, and John, and great grandchildren Jessica, Joseph and William. Her family is especially grateful for her special acts of kindness to each and for her production of volumes of family history books.
Her request is that we continue our connections with one another, give a smile, and express gratitude.
