HOLYOAK, James King

With great sadness the family announces the passing of Jim Holyoak at Langley Memorial Hospital on March 7, 2010, aged 91. Born January 7, 1919 in Botha, Alberta, he moved to the Lower Mainland with his parents in 1933. After taking over the farm in Glen Valley from his parents, Jim farmed there until his retirement in 1973. His retirement years were spent in Aldergrove and Murrayville. Jim was predeceased in 2005 by his devoted wife of 58 years, Violet. He is survived by son Keith Holyoak, Los Angeles, California (Hongjing); daughters Heather Beck (Eric), Langley; Iris Blair (Ian Hollands), Surrey; and Laurel Holyoak (Barry Baker), Langley. He will be missed by his eleven grandchildren, James, Jessica, Neil, Vanessa, Dylan, Erica, Curtis, Elizabeth, Cameron, Troy, Colton; and great granddaughter Lauren. Jim is also mourned by Hattie Hogeterp, Bruce Bose and their son Ben; by Patricia Cheng; and by his good friend Art Jary. Special thanks to the staff of Harrison Landing retirement home, Dr. Peter Methven, and the staff of Langley Hospital for their care and compassion. Memorial service will be held on Monday, March 22, 2pm at Bradner Presbyterian Church, 5275 Bradner Road, Abbotsford. Service will be officiated by family friend Reverend Elizabeth McLagan.
