Jean DECK

June 16, 2004

DECK: Jean (Eleanor Jane) of Langley passed away in Langley Memorial on Wednesday, June 16, 2004 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 22, at 2p.m. at St. Andrews Anglican Church, 20955 Old Yale Rd., Langley.

Jean is survived by her loving husband and partner of 57 years, Dick (Richmond Arthur), son Alan (Janet) of Australia, daughter Catherine Campbell (Wes) of Summerland, son Brian of Surrey, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, and 2 brothers.

Born in Saskatchewan in 1925 and married there in 1947, Jean and Dick moved to Surrey BC where for 17 years, they operated the former Aldon Bungalows Motel (then located on the Fraser Hwy. near the junction of King George Hwy). Later, and until illness prevented her from continuing, Jean worked as a dedicated volunteer, first as a member of the Otter Hospital Auxiliary and then as a volunteer/convenor at ''Penny Pinchers'', a well-known and respected Auxiliary thrift store which raises funds for equipment at Langley Memorial Hospital. In November '03 Jean was formally recognized by the Chamber of Commerce as Langley's ''2003 H.D. Stafford Good Citizen of the Year'' for her near 20 years as a hard working, caring citizen.

She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and co-workers. In lieu of flowers and if friends and family so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Langley Hospital Auxiliary, 22051 Fraser Hwy., Langley V3A 4H4.
