EDWARDS, John Stewart Edwards

1922 - 2010

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2010 in Langley. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Kay, and his 2 daughters and their husbands: Reta and Richard Wood (Pine Island), Elaine and Clyde Inouye (Parksville). He also leaves adored grandchildren: Fraser Inouye and his wife Jodi (Las Vegas) and Kimiko Inouye (Miami), as well as two year old Hudson, his great grandson (Las Vegas). Dad was born in Edmonton and grew up on Gilley Avenue in Burnaby with his surviving sisters Stella and Minnie. He is predeceased by sweet sister Lila and his parents Harry and Mary Edwards. Dad began an apprenticeship with the CNR as a locomotive pipefitter when at age 19 he was called to WWII. He served in the Canadian Scottish Regiment in France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany and was a soldier on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day. On his return to Canada he resumed work at the CNR, married, and purchased land in Surrey through the VLA program. The land is now the site of Maple Green School. In 1980 Dad and Mom moved to Brookswood, Langley, followed by retirement in 1982. Dad liked to putter in the yard and always enjoyed reading. In earlier years he loved to walk with Mom in Stanley Park and by the Serpentine River. Dad was a patient, responsible, and gentle man who will be missed greatly. "When I think of heroes and the great things they've done, I feel the way I've always felt, my Dad's the greatest one." Dad wished to have no service. His ashes will be lovingly laid at a favourite spot on Vancouver Island. The charity he liked to remember is the Union Gospel Mission, 616 East Cordova Street, Vancouver, BC, V6A 1L9, their motto being "Blessed is he that considers the poor."
