In Loving Memory ~
It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Noel Stewart Butcher on Mar 17, 2022. Born on December 5, 1920 Noel was the youngest of 6 children to George and Ruth. The family lived and farmed in Saskatchewan until they moved to Victoria in 1939. Noel enlisted in the army in 1940 and spent 3 years training in the south of England with the PPCLI before being shipped to Sicily as part of Operation Husky. Noel served in the Italian campaign for 2 years, carried on to Belgium and was in Holland at the liberation.
Returning to Victoria after the war, Noel met his dear Nora and they were married in 1949. After moving to Edmonton and finding work with the Canadian Grain Elevator, they had two daughters. They moved back to BC and settled in Langley where Noel got his real estate license, and went on to have a successful career as a realtor. He was also involved in the PPCLI Vancouver Branch, the Legion and the church. Noel volunteered for the Cancer Society for 15 years, driving patients to treatments, and as a telephone liaison. Noel and Nora enjoyed many years in the house they built in Langley, working in their vegetable garden and his workshop. They also took time away in their trailer to go fishing and camping.
Noel still had his keen sense of humor and optimism as he passed his 101st birthday. He enjoyed the care and friendship of the wonderful staff at Magnolia Gardens in his last years. It was most appropriate that he passed away on March 17, as this was the PPCLI Regimental Day. We are most grateful for his faithfulness to our family, his example of patience and wisdom. We will miss him dearly.
Noel is survived by daughters, Linda and Sandra, grandchildren Nadine and Derek and great granddaughter, Isla.
